How to Get a Facelift with Natural-Looking Results

3 Essential Questions to Ask Your Surgeon

For anyone contemplating a facelift, nothing is more frightening than the thought of winding up with the stretched, pulled, windswept look that’s reminiscent of years past or the botched jobs you sometimes see on TV.

You can help assure you get the natural-looking results you want by doing your due diligence ahead of your procedure.

Here are 3 Essential Questions to Ask Your Surgeon

1. How many facelifts have you performed?
You ideally want a “facial cosmetic specialist” to perform your surgery ¬¬–– someone who focuses strictly on the face and neck area versus someone whose main focus might be general plastic surgery of the body or non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers. There is a definite art to providing a natural-looking facelift, and it’s mastered over years of being in practice and performing thousands of facelifts on both women and men.

2. What do you consider to be a good result?
If the surgeon talks about his or her movie star patients or raves about someone’s results that you find unacceptable, then it says you’re not on the same page. Keep interviewing surgeons until you feel you and the surgeon share the same philosophy about what a “natural result” means. You can ask to see before and after photos of patients but, remember, most patients like to keep their surgery quiet and not share their results.

3. What other procedures or treatments might you suggest for me to look my best?
A high-integrity surgeon and his or her staff will recommend only what you actually need at your stage of life and aging and not try to sell you on procedures and treatments you don’t need. On the other hand, if the surgeon feels an eyelift, for example, or a non-surgical treatment such as dermal fillers or Botox will complete your look, then take the recommendation into consideration.

According to Dr. Robert J. Smyth, who specializes strictly in rejuvenation of just the face and neck and has performed more than 3,000 facelifts in Cincinnati for patients coming from within a 100-mile radius, “The only result I believe to be acceptable in today’s world is a natural look that leaves you looking like yourself but younger, refreshed and with the smoother face and neck skin and more defined jawline of your younger years.”

“I don’t believe in ‘overdone’, whether it’s a facelift, fillers or Botox. The goal is to have family and friends wondering why you look so good, but not really sure why.”

Dr. Smyth performs the leading minimally-invasive facelift known as the Timeless Lift™. Its proven, natural results have made it the procedure of choice for people from their 40s into their 80s. His mantra: Experience matters, especially when it’s your face.

Which Dermal Fillers Work?

4 proven, anti-aging injectables (and 3 “watchouts”).

Facial wrinkles, lines and folds are part of the natural aging process. They can start to show up as early as in or 30s and 40s to make us look older than our numerical age.

The good news is that today’s non-surgical dermal fillers, also known as injectables, can do a remarkable job of temporarily softening or removing moderate to severe facial lines, wrinkles and folds.

In the hands of a skilled and experienced surgeon, these office-administered treatments deliver superb and immediate results whether used alone or in combination with a facelift. They can last for months to more than a year, and can be repeated as needed.

Here are 4 dermal fillers to consider as part of your anti-aging routine.

(1) Restylane®
Dr. Robert J. Smyth, MD, facial cosmetic surgeon in Cincinnati, OH, specializing in just the face and neck area for 30+ years, prefers this dermal filler for the delicate area under the eyes. Specially formulated for the thinner under eye skin, Restylane allows him to fill sunken areas and add volume subtly and gently for natural results that leave the face and eyes looking refreshed and more youthful. FDA approved.
Results: Can last up to 18 months
Cost: Usually priced by the “syringe”. Ask your surgeon his or her cost per syringe. Example: The area under your eyes may require two syringes at initial treatment.

(2) Botox® (injectable)
Botox has become the gold standard among cosmetic surgeons for temporarily smoothing facial wrinkles, especially the vertical lines between the eyebrows (the “11’s”), creases at the corners of the eyes (squint lines), and horizontal wrinkles in the forehead. Botox is the brand name of this toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. FDA approved.
Results: Typically 3 to 6 months
Cost: Usually priced by the “unit”. Ask your surgeon his or her cost per unit. Example: The area between the brows may require 10 units of Botox at your initial treatment.

(3) Juvederm®
Juvederm is a tried-andtrue dermal gel containing a modified hyaluronic acid identical to a naturally occurring building block found in the human body. Dr. Smyth uses this face filler to smooth away lines and wrinkles in the nasolabial folds (along the sides of the nose and mouth), in the cheeks and chin areas, delivering natural results. FDA approved.
Results: Typically up to one year or longer
Cost: Usually priced by the “syringe”. Ask your surgeon his or her cost per syringe. Example: The nasolabial area may require two syringes at initial treatment.

(4) Voluma®
Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler designed specifically to correct volume loss in the cheek area. This injectable gel subtly returns the cheeks to the fuller, natural look of your younger years. It is part of the Juvederm family of fillers.
Results: Can last up to two years
Cost: Usually priced by the “syringe”. Ask your surgeon his or her cost per syringe. Example: The cheeks may require two syringes at initial treatment.

WATCHOUTS
• There is a definite art to treatment using dermal fillers. Choose a surgeon who is highly experienced and who takes a conservative approach. He or she can always add more fillers later, if needed.
• Inform your facial cosmetic surgeon/specialist of any allergies or medical conditions you have, as well as any muscle or nerve conditions you have currently or have been treated for in the past, and all medications you currently take.
• Enter carefully into savings “deals”, “packages”, “parties” and discount “offers” that require you to have more dermal fillers than you actually need in order to get a savings. An overdone face is not worth the money saved.

7 Facts to Know About Eyelifts

A beautiful way to turn back the clock.

Concerned about loose and droopy skin in your upper lids, or bags and puffiness under your eyes? If so, an upper and/or lower eyelid lift can be a beautiful way to look younger, refreshed, and turn back the clock a decade or more.

Here are 7 facts to know about eyelid lifts.

FACT #1: Eyelid surgery is not painful.
Upper and/or lower eyelid surgery performed by Dr. Robert J. Smyth in Cincinnati OH is done under strictly local anesthesia to eliminate the risks and longer healing time associated with general anesthesia. Eyelid procedures are not painful. You are provided some light sedation and are kept entirely comfortable throughout the blepharoplasty which takes less than an hour.

FACT #2: The lower eyelid lift and upper eyelid lift are two separate procedures. They can be done individually or in combination.
Lower Eyelid Lift (eliminates/minimizes under eye bags and puffiness)
Lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) may be recommended for removing the puffy bags under the eyes. In this procedure, the incision is artfully placed directly under the eye where it becomes invisible after healing. Dermal fillers specially designated for the thin and fragile skin in the undereye area also may be indicated for filling out the hollows and smoothing fine lines.

Upper Eyelid Lift (gets rid of saggy, drooping upper lids)
The typical upper eyelid surgery procedure (upper blepharoplasty) involves the surgeon artfully making a very skinny incision in the natural crease of the upper lid, removing extra skin and fat and closing the incision. Placing the incision in the natural crease ensures it is almost entirely invisible once healed. In some cases, Botox injections might also be suggested to lessen or eliminate squint lines between the brows and/or at the corners of the eyes.

FACT #3: You can go out in public at about 72 hours post-procedure, wearing sunglasses.
Eyelid lifts are among the fastest healing of all facial rejuvenation procedures. You will be asked to apply ice to the affected eye area for about 15-20 minutes, three times a day for the first two days post-procedure. The round eye gel packs you keep chilled in the freezer work well and can easily be found at your local pharmacy or online. Sutures dissolve on their own so there’s no worry about suture removal. Most patients are out and about within 3-4 days post-procedure donning sunglasses to protect against squinting. You should not touch, rub or pull on your eyes for two-three weeks post-procedure. TIP: If you wear prescription glasses or contacts, you might want to have a pair of prescription sunglasses to use during your healing period.

FACT #4: You may have some minimal bruising and/or swelling.
A bit of slight bruising and/or swelling around the eye area is not uncommon post-procedure. Full recovery (all bruising or swelling gone) can take up to 10 days to disappear. The skinny incision line mostly fades within a week post-op.

FACT #5: A man’s eyelift requires a unique surgical approach (vs. a woman’s eyelift).
A man’s eye area (eye and brow) is typically straighter across and with the brow lower than a woman’s eye area. To maintain a masculine look, it is important the surgeon not remove too much of the skin and fat in the upper lid which could feminize the eye. Ask your surgeon his or her approach to the male eye.

FACT #6: The goal should be an entirely natural, refreshed look. You, but younger.
Younger, refreshed looking eyes that turn back the clock without changing your natural eye shape should be the goal of an eyelid procedure –– NEVER a pulled or startled look in the upper lids and NEVER a hollowed-out look under the eyes. Be sure to discuss expectations with your surgeon in advance.

FACT #7: You play a role in getting and maintaining best results.
To ensure you get the most out of your eyelid surgery, protect your eyes from the sun by wearing quality sunglasses not just in the summer but year-round. A high-quality eye cream that moisturizes the tender skin around the eyes, encourages the production of collagen and elastin, and nourishes the eye area to retain resiliency and firmness is also important.

Facial Cosmetic Procedures by “Facial Zone”

Your options by 6 zones of your face.

After a certain age, most of us have something that bothers us about our face. Before you take steps to improve things, it’s important to understand what will work and what won’t which, in turn, requires knowing the different “zones” of your face.

The zones (areas) of your face each demand a different approach when it comes to correcting the natural effects of aging. There’s no one way procedure or treatment that can do it all and still leave you with the natural, “younger-you” results you want.

Here are the six common zones of your face and how facial cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert J. Smyth, in Cincinnati OH, specialist with 30+ years in just the face and neck area, typically addresses each.

Zone 1: Lower Face and Neck

Problem: Loose, sagging skin in the lower face and neck, jowls, and turkey neck
Solution: A minimally-invasive lower facelift such as the Timeless Lift® will remove the extra skin in the lower face, cheeks and neck areas to leave your face looking gently and naturally lifted, your jawline restored, neck smoother, and your overall look younger and refreshed. NOTE: A lower facelift will not affect the eyes, the area immediately around the mouth, or the brow and forehead area.

Zone 2: Around Your Mouth

Problem: Pesky, vertical lines above and below your lip lines
Solution: Dermal fillers such as Juvederm can help to smooth these fine lines. Laser skin resurfacing is another option, but it requires more time for healing.

Zone 3: Brow and Forehead

Problem: Horizontal lines on your forehead and/or vertical lines between your brows
Solution: Botox injections can soften the expression lines on your forehead and between your brows. Deep creases may also require treatment with dermal fillers.

Problem: Low, heavy-looking brow line
Solution: If your brow line has dropped over the years and you feel that you’re always having to purposely lift your brows so that people don’t ask why you’re frowning or look so tired, a brow lift might be the suggested remedy.

Zone 4: Side of Nose to Mouth

Problem: Lines, folds or furrows from the bottom outside edges of your nose to your mouth
Solution: This is a common area to show laxity as the face ages. Minimal laxity may be treated with dermal fillers, while deeper folds may require a combination of the minimally-invasive lower facelift and dermal fillers.

Zone 5: Chin

Problem: Receding chin
Solution: A chin implant is a minor surgical procedure that can work wonders to provide a more attractive and natural-looking profile.

Problem: Double Chin
Solution: Submental liposuction is a quick and proven, minor surgical procedure for removing the fat under the chin. Liposuction can be performed alone or in combination with a lower facelift.

Zone 6: Eyes

Problem: Heavy upper lids with loose and extra skin
Solution: An upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) is a remarkable way to look brighter, more awake and refreshed. The goal is always an entirely natural look, with special attention given to the female eye versus the male eye.

Problem: Puffy or sunken lower lids
Solution: Puffy lower lids may require a lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelid lift), while sunken areas below the eyes may be best treated with dermal fillers intended specifically for the thin, delicate skin in this area.

10 Expectations When Having Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Straight from the desk of Dr. Robert J. Smyth, MD

#1 Expect to look like yourself, only younger and refreshed.
The goal of facial cosmetic surgery in today’s world is NATURAL — you should ALWAYS look like yourself after whatever procedure you may undergo. A successful result for a lower facelift/neck lift is to look like a refreshed “younger-you” –- NEVER the tight, pulled look of the past. The Timeless Lift™ performed by Dr. Robert J. Smyth, facial cosmetic surgeon and specialist in just the face and neck area who has performed more than 3,000 facelifts, lifts the lower face and sagging jowls to provide a refined jawline, smoother neck and younger appearance.

#2 Expect friends NOT to say anything to you.
Friends and family will know you look better, brighter, happier and more refreshed, which means they may wonder if you’ve “something done”. However, they may not ask you outright, because they feel it’s rude to do so or because you look so good yet natural, they’re really not sure.

#3 Expect the incision lines to be visible for the first few weeks post-procedure, gradually fading each day until they essentially disappear. The incision lines of today’s minimally invasive facelift (Timeless Lift™) are extremely thin and artfully tucked into the natural crease that all of us have in front of our ear, making them easy to hide during the healing period. Most women simply pull down a few pieces of hair to obscure the skinny lines which, again, fade away in short time.

#4 Expect to return to work and moderate activities within 10-14 days post-procedure.
“My patients come back into the office at eight days post-facelift to have their tiny sutures removed. Most then return to work and routine activities. I recommend waiting about two weeks post-facelift to resume heavy exercise or lifting.”

#5 Expect to be able to have future facelifts, if desired.
The Timeless Lift™ not only turns back the clock a good 10 years for most people, but it lasts anywhere from six to 10 years after which it can be repeated and once again provide outstanding results. “It’s common to have patients from a decade ago come back to have another lift performed,” says Dr. Smyth. “They loved the results the first time and want to turn back the clock again to look as young as they feel.”

#6 Expect to feel anxious ahead of time.
Experiencing at least a little anxiety before a facelift, even if you’ve had one in the past, is absolutely normal. Not to worry. “My patients take a mild relaxation medication an hour before surgery, along with some light sedation pre-procedure,” says Dr. Smyth. “Patients oftentimes sleep through the procedure.”

#7 Expect to feel no discomfort during the actual procedure.
The minimally-invasive Timeless You™ facelift is performed with the patient having strictly local anesthesia and the light sedation mentioned in #5. Patients are kept entirely comfortable throughout the procedure and are spared the longer recovery and risks associated with general anesthesia.

#8 Expect to feel a sense of snugness in your cheeks and neck after your facelift.
Patients may have a bit of swelling and minimal bruising post-procedure, which can translate into their face feeling snug –– not tight and not painful. Patients are asked to apply ice packs for the first 48 hours post-op, followed by warm compresses until any bruising fades, which happens gradually and usually disappears altogether within 10-12 days.

#9 Expect to have a bandage and wrap around your face for the first 48 hours post-procedure.
To protect the face and help ensure optimal results, a soft and stretchy cotton wrap is placed over a bandage in the lower face area immediately following a facelift. Dr. Smyth removes this initial dressing at 24 hours post-procedure and replaces it with a smaller wrap for day two post—op. On day three post-op, patients can remove the smaller wrap and the healing will continue on its own. Wearing the wraps is another reason why most patients stay in for the first several days after their surgery and take this time to relax and let their face heal.

#10 Expect to feel better emotionally as well as look better.
“Lift your face. Lift your confidence. Lift your life.” That’s the beauty of a facelift. Beyond looking better, patients feel better about themselves in ways they never even expected. They often remark about how they feel re-energized, ready to get back into the work world and re-ignite their social life and friendships. We hear wonderful stories of how people renew old hobbies like dancing or traveling, or get involved in all new adventures.

It’s About This Wrinkly Neck of Mine

A neck lift can provide the smoother, younger-looking neck you’ll love.

Neck LiftAs we age, the skin in our neck typically begins to show laxity, and the muscle bands (vertical lines in the front of the neck) become more visible. Add to this the excess and sagging skin in the lower face that creates jowls, and the result is our face and neck area looks older than our age. No one says it better than our patients…

“I hate how my neck looks. I look in the mirror and see vertical lines in the front part of my neck and horizontal folds at the sides. My neck looks 10 years older than my age.”

“In the last few years, my neck has become so lined and wrinkled, even more so than my face. My mom had the same problem as she got into her 60s.”

“I’m not a scarf person, but now that my neck has become so wrinkly I find myself trying to hide the lines with a scarf or turned-up collar. I’m very self-conscious about it.”

A wrinkled neck (like the skin on our face, arms and legs) can be caused by genetics but even more so by sun damage, gravity, stress, and poor nutrition. It’s common for people to be very diligent about applying sunscreen to their face but to overlook their neck. The result over time can mean not only loose skin in the neck but also skin that is crepe-like in texture and less smooth.

While some of today’s advanced, anti-aging serums and creams can help to improve the texture of the neck, only a surgical procedure will eliminate the excess loose skin and remedy the prominent vertical muscle bands.

A proven solution for an aging neck is the minimally-invasive lower facelift/neck lift –– called the Timeless Lift® –– performed by Dr. Robert J. Smyth MD in Cincinnati, OH. This combined neck lift and lower facelift procedure lifts and smooths the entire lower face and neck area in one procedure. The procedure includes submental liposuction (if needed), a simple step that Dr. Smyth uses to remove fatty deposits under the chin and to further smooth the neck and jawline area.

The Timeless Lift® is performed under local anesthesia, with patients being entirely comfortable throughout the procedure but without the risks and longer recovery time associated with general anesthesia. Recovery can include some minor bruising and swelling but most patients return to work and full activities at 10-14 days post procedure.
Results of the Timeless Lift™ facelift/neck lift last six to 10 years depending on the patient and how well they take care of their health and protect their skin from sun damage.

All patients will see improvement from the neck lift procedure, especially those with mild to moderate neck wrinkles. Patients with severe lines and folds in their neck should discuss expectations with their surgeon in advance of the procedure, as they may have more bruising and a longer healing time. Also, for best results, patients who are more than 20 pounds over their ideal weight and plan to lose the weight should do so prior to their neck lift.

TIP: If considering a neck lift and/or lower facelift, be sure to choose a face and neck rejuvenation specialist who is board certified, has extensive experience, and who will be happy to answer all of your questions at a personal consultation. “Having performed more than 3,000 lower facelifts/neck lifts, there is a definite art to providing the natural results patients want and deserve,” says Dr. Smyth.

Get Past What’s Holding You Back from Looking Your Best

Don’t let these typical reasons stop you.

Facelift or FillersIt’s a fact. Most people tend to think, think and think some more about having “something done” to their aging face –– sometimes for two, three, five years or longer. While unhappy with how they are aging, they can’t allow themselves to see a facial cosmetic specialist, if only for a non-obligatory consultation. Many of these people will admire a friend for having had a facial cosmetic procedure or non-surgical treatments (Botox or dermal fillers), but still are unable to do the same for themselves.

Why is it that we deny ourselves the opportunity to feel better about how we look, even when deep down we truly desire a change?

If any of the following reasons sound familiar, you’re in good company. They represent some of the typical “reasons why not” that we’ve heard over the past 30+ years in consultations with thousands of patients.

Typical reasons why people put off having facial cosmetic surgery.

  • I have no business spending money like that on myself.
  • I’ll just make do with how I look –– my best days are over anyway.
  • My kids will have a fit if I do anything about how I look.
  • My friends will talk about me –- what will people think at work?
  • I have to take care of my kids and grandkids –– no time for me.
  • Who do I think I am –– I’m no movie star!
  • You do that and then you have to do something with your hair and your wardrobe.
  • What if I’m still not happy with my life after the surgery?

Make this year the time to do something just for you.

If there’s a common theme to the above list, it’s that people (women in particular) tend to put everybody else’s needs and concerns ahead of their own, or they feel they are undeserving of doing something just for themselves. We understand completely and never pressure patients to have any kind of procedure or treatment they are not ready to do. On the other hand, extremely exciting is the happiness and renewed confidence we see in people’s faces when they look younger and feel better about themselves. Let’s talk. We’d love to hear your story and tell you more about what might be a life-changing moment for you.

What’s Right for You? Facelift? Fillers? Both?

A guide to what you might need and when.

Looking Your BestFacial aging is a gradual process that begins in our 20s as the hyaluronic acid which naturally occurs in our skin and gives it its natural fullness and elasticity begins to break down. As the firmness of our facial skin slowly decreases, the result can be facial wrinkles, lines around our lips and from our nose to our mouth, hollowed cheeks, and loose and sagging skin. Also affecting the aging of our face are our genetics, lifestyle, sun damage, smoking, and stress, and other factors –– some we can control; some we cannot.

What are our options for fighting facial aging, and when is the right time to do what? Here’s a quick guide.

There are basically three categories of anti-aging facial treatments:
(1) Injectables/Dermal Fillers
(2) Skin Resurfacing
(3) Facial Cosmetic Surgery/Facelift

These treatments can be performed individually or in combination depending on the specific problem(s) the patient faces. It’s not uncommon for patients to start with injectables/fillers and move on to surgical treatments as signs of aging worsen and injectables/fillers no longer deliver desired results.

PROBLEM:
Minor lines and wrinkles, hollowed areas under the eyes, flattening out of the cheeks, squint and frown lines.
ANTI-AGING SOLUTION:
Injectables (dermal fillers) such as Restylane®, Juvederm® and Voluma® can be used to fill wrinkles and even out facial contours for a smoother, more youthful look. Botox® is used to counteract the vertical frown lines that form between the eyebrows (called “11’s”), horizontal lines on the forehead, and squint lines at the corners of the eyes.

PROBLEM:
Deep lines and wrinkles and/or irregular pigmentation due to sun damage, smoking, or poor diet. Rough and uneven skin caused by acne.
ANTI-AGING SOLUTION:
Laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion or physician-grade skin treatments can be used to improve the quality of the skin and restore it to its more youthful texture and smoothness.

PROBLEM:
Loose, sagging and excess skin in the cheeks, jowls, and neck area.
ANTI-AGING SOLUTION:
Only a facelift can remove excess skin. No treatment other than today’s minimally-invasive surgical facelift can get rid of the extra skin that naturally occurs as we age, or that results from significant weight loss. One highly-proven facelift is the leading, minimally-invasive facelift procedure performed by Dr. Robert J. Smyth MD, face and neck cosmetic surgeon and specialist in Cincinnati OH. Dr. Smyth has performed more than 3,000 of these procedures, called the Timeless Lift™. This facelift rids the lower face and neck of droopy, sagging, excess skin to restore the smooth jawline and neck of our younger years. The result is a totally natural, “younger you” look –– NEVER pulled or windswept.

Results of the Timeless Lift™ facelift will typically last 8-10 years depending on the patient’s lifestyle, use of sunscreen, and not smoking. The Timeless Lift™ is performed under strictly local anesthesia, eliminating the longer recovery and risks associated with general anesthesia. Most patients need only one to two weeks to recover before returning to normal activities. Some are out and about within 3-4 days post-procedure.

Want A Younger-Looking Neck?

A neck lift can make a remarkable difference.

Face Fillers Cincinnati, OHLoose, saggy skin in the neck area is one of the most common signs of aging. That extra skin has nowhere to go except to make it unattractive for women to wear certain necklines and uncomfortable for men to wear a buttoned shirt and tie.

A neck lift can make a remarkable difference. Dr. Robert J. Smyth, MD, Facial Cosmetic Surgeon and Specialist in Cincinnati OH, has performed more than 3,000 Timeless Lift™ procedures, the minimally-invasive lower face and neck lift that takes care of both a wrinkly neck and sagging jowls.

Timeless Lift™ Minimally-Invasive Lower Facelift and Neck Lift
What is it?
Hundreds of thousands of people across the USA have had this highly-effective and proven procedure that addresses loose, extra, sagging skin in both the neck area and lower face. The procedure lifts the lower face and cheeks, and smooths the neck area to restore a younger and natural looking, defined jawline and neck. Dr. Smyth performs this procedure strictly under local anesthesia, thereby shortening the recovery period and eliminating risks associated with general anesthesia.

How long does it last?
The Timeless Lift™ lasts from six to 11 years for most people, after which the procedure can be repeated if needed.

Recovery time?
Patients have a very thin incision tucked into the natural crease at the front of the ear and also behind the ear. Sutures are typically removed at eight days post-procedure. Mild bruising and swelling may occur and can last up to 10 days.

Approximate cost?
A good way to look at the cost of the Timeless Lift™ is that if your lift lasts 10 years, you will have invested less than $2.50/day to return to a natural, younger-looking you. Most patients feel that’s a small price to pay considering how much better they feel about themselves.

Thinking About Facial Cosmetic Surgery?

5 Feelings You Can Expect to Have

1) Expect to feel vain at even the thought of having facial cosmetic surgery.
We put everything and everyone else first in life –– kids, spouse, work, neighborhood, school and social obligations. Then one day we get to the point where we say, “It’s my turn”. Go for it. It’s not vain to want to be at your best.

2) Expect to feel anxious.
Most every patient experiences some anxiety prior to facial cosmetic surgery. You can trust that you will be entirely relaxed and feel no discomfort during your procedure. Dr. Robert J. Smyth, MD, Facial Cosmetic Surgeon and Specialist in Cincinnati OH who has performed more than 3,000 minimally-invasive facelifts and thousands of eyelifts and other procedures, uses strictly local anesthesia thus relieving you from the risks and longer recovery associated with general anesthesia.

3) Expect to wonder how you will look afterward.
Not to worry. Before selecting a facial cosmetic surgeon to perform any type of procedure or treatment on you, make sure the two of you agree as to what constitutes “natural looking” results. Ask questions. Go with your gut. If things don’t feel right or you feel rushed or you’re just not comfortable with moving ahead, visit other cosmetic surgeons and reassess your options.

4) Expect to worry about what people will think if they learn you “had work done”.
Even as adults we often seek the approval of family and friends when making certain decisions. One patient got over her hesitation to have facial cosmetic surgery when she concluded, “It’s my life and I don’t need permission to do what makes me happy.”

5) Expect to feel happy to look in the mirror and like what you see.
To feel confident again in your looks and ready to go out and enjoy life like you once did are the best feelings of all. Here are a few examples of how patients feel after their cosmetic procedure:

“I can’t believe how much better I feel about myself since my procedure.”

“A guy can start to feel less competitive in the workplace as we get older. With the lift and my eyes done, I feel back in the game.”

“I am so glad I had the Timeless Lift done before our daughter’s wedding. I love how I look in the photos and they’ll be around for generations!”

“People keep asking me why I look so good. I just tell them I’m exercising, eating healthy, and taking better care of myself. I changed my hairstyle, too. My friends are so confused and I’m loving it!”

“I honestly feel like I started my life all over again.”
