You don’t have to be in your aging years to have puffy eyes or bags under your eyes. These two conditions can be a matter of genetics as well as part of the aging process and can start to appear as early as in your 30s. The result is puffy eyes that look tired and older than your real age and for some people, a sad or unhappy facial expression that can affect their confidence.
The good news is that you have both surgical and non-surgical options for getting rid of puffy eyes and bags under the eyes and having the younger-looking eyes you desire.
Surgical Options for Puffy Eyes
Timeless Eyes™ is the proven eyelift for removing the puffy-looking pockets of excess skin that affect the area below the lower eyelids. The same procedure is also used to remove excess skin in the upper lids that causes droopy, upper-eye hooding and a heavy look to the eyes. Whether your problem is the upper lids or lower eyelids or both, the Timeless Eyes™ procedure rejuvenates the eyes and restores a more youthful, natural, refreshed bright-eyed face.
Dr. Smyth performs the Timeless Eyes™ eyelift with the patient having local anesthesia, preceded by a small amount of relaxation medication. This ensures a faster recovery and eliminates all risks of general anesthesia. Our patients are always comfortable during the procedure and typically experience only very mild, if any, discomfort post-procedure. The tiny sutures which are tucked in the natural crease of the upper lid or hidden at the lower lid line dissolve on their own, so there is no need for suture removal. There may be some minor swelling after surgery but most patients put on their sunglasses and return to mild activities within two to three days post-procedure. Timeless Eyes eyelifts typically last five to 10 years or longer and can be repeated as needed. The procedure can be performed in conjunction with a facelift, Botox, dermal fillers and other facial cosmetic procedures for a single healing period. Non-Surgical Options for Puffy Eyes
As we age, we lose volume in our face including the area below the eye around the orbital rim. The resulting hollowness can further emphasize the look of under-eye bags. A non-surgical treatment proven to help solve this problem is the use of dermal fillers. Dr. Smyth prefers using Restylane (FDA-approved) to fill depressions around the lower eyelid area. “The skin of the eyes is the thinnest of the body so I am very judicious in my application,” says Dr. Smyth. “The goal is a more youthful looking eye area and a natural perk to the patient’s eyes and overall countenance.”
