Regain your naturally fuller, smoother, more youthful face.
Gradual loss of the full, smooth cheeks of our youth is part of the normal aging process. You can blame it on a natural loss of collagen and cheek fat. As we age, collagen which is the main protein supporting the skin and connective tissue of the face begins to break down.
Without as much collagen and fat underneath for support, our facial skin shows laxity and the result is lines, wrinkles, furrows and folds primarily in the cheek and jowl areas, chin, and in the nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). “Think of your face as a balloon that when filled with air is firm, smooth and rounded, but once you start letting out some of the air, the balloon becomes lax and wrinkled,” says Dr. Robert Smyth, Face and Neck Rejuvenation Surgeon and Specialist.
When we look in the mirror, we see the loss of collagen as our looking tired, sad, droopy… and older. Here’s the good news. Today’s dermal fillers can do a great job of restoring the face to the fuller, smoother look of our youth. Dermal fillers are no replacement for a facelift, which is necessary to remove excessive loose and sagging skin. However, dermal fillers can be a beautiful complement to a facelift and also to keep the face looking younger before a facelift and in between facelifts.
3 dermal fillers used by Dr. Smyth on his patients to achieve remarkable results.
Juvederm –– a family of FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds and furrows/indentations in the chin and jowl area. Juvederm injections typically last nine to 12 months for most patients and can be repeated.
Restylane –– a FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable, non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is specially formulated to fill sunken areas in the under eye area where the skin is thinner. Injections will usually last 12 to 18 months.
Voluma –– one of the newer hyaluronic acid dermal fillers available. Also FDA approved, it is specifically intended for filling the cheek area. Injections typically last 12 to 18 months.
